FRANKLINTON, La. - A man robbed and shot his neighbor as well as a police officer who responded to the call; and, also set his own home on fire inside of which was the dead body of his mother, in a rampage Thursday night, according to the Washington Parish Sheriff's Office.
A spokesperson with the sheriff's office said 20-year-old Christopher Rashad Dillon was booked with two counts of attempted first-degree murder of a police officer and a count of aggravated arson. The incident happened in front of a home on 16th Avenue and Lenora.
According to the spokesperson, a man was returning to his home, when he was met in the driveway by Dillon, a man he recognized as a neighbor who demanded money. During the incident, the victim was shot. There were no specifics on his injury, but he was taken to University Hospital and was expected to be OK, according to the spokesperson.
Police said Dillon then retreated to his home, where he barricaded himself inside and shot at one of the officers responding to the scene. The officer was hit in the arm and his injury was said to be non life-threatening.
Police said Dillon then set his house on fire and after it was put out, the dead body of the his mother was found inside of the burned home.
Dillon eventually surrendered and was treated after which he was booked into the Washington Parish Jail.
